The Return of In-Store Events
Soft relaunch of in-store events: Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering events will return Friday through Sunday—for Fully Vaccinated Individuals Only.
A lot has changed since March of 2020. For the full details on our new events structure in 2021, please read this entire post.
It’s been THE question on everyone’s mind since March of last year… When are in-store events coming back? We’ve been asking ourselves the exact same question, knowing full well that when they do return, they probably won’t look the same as they did in the beforetimes.
In the time since our final pre-Covid event was run, we permanently closed the Greenfield store (our main event location) as well as our Oak & Shield Pub. Meanwhile, we opened an online store, changed the layouts of our brick-and-mortar locations and shifted our store hours. We watched as local metrics rose and fell, and as the vaccine rollout began. All of these changes have molded the way we’ll step back into in-store gaming… Weekend Events featuring Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: the Gathering.
More on that in a moment. First, let’s talk vaccinations.
Must Be Fully Vaccinated to Play
Our goal for the past 14 months has been to create policies and procedures that will reduce and eliminate the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The vaccines are our best tool in doing so, assuring us and our attendees that we are not elongating or fostering further spread of the virus in our event spaces.
So yes—must be fully vaccinated to play.
We’re aware that there are individuals for whom the vaccines have not yet been approved, and that this policy will temporarily exclude those individuals. We apologize for this inconvenience, but we’re firm in our quest to provide a safe and secure environment for our players, and to not be a crowded gathering place for individuals who have not yet been vaccinated.
Players must be MVP members (free to sign up), and should plan to submit their fully vaccinated status at least one week in advance using this form.
The vaccines are highly effective prevention measures, but we know they’re not perfect.
At this time, masks are required while shopping and encouraged while playing in events.
We’ve watched as our local D&D community has continued to grow at an incredible rate. Our D&D players have always been an amazing group to interact with—and with the game’s continued growth, we’ve decided to feature it on our calendar.
Saturdays and Sundays will be dedicated to Dungeons & Dragons at both Mayfair and North Shore.
Saturday D&D returns June 19
Sunday D&D returns July 11
The community painting table will return to Mayfair and North Shore on Saturdays during the early D&D timeslot.
Entry to the painting table grants access to our full kit of paints and supplies.
Magic is returning at Mayfair and North Shore, beginning with Friday Night Magic on June 11.
What about other games and events?
Our Monday-through-Thursday hours will continue to be 11AM-7PM. We’re sorry to say that this means there are currently no open event slots available on weekday evenings or weekends.
There is available weekday daytime space at North Shore for use of our demo libraries and additional community events. If you’d like to host a daytime event, the option to do so will become available soon.
We know this is a big change from the past. We wish we could pick up where we left off with all of the games and events we were running across four event locations, but it’s just not feasible with our current store hours and limited gaming space to resume our previous event schedule. We’ll make announcements if this changes in the future.
