RPG Roulette: Companions’ Tale @ Mayfair
Nov 7 @ 6:00 pm

“I’ve met the Hero. He and I spent a month traveling together across the frozen north. I set camp, cooked the food, and tried not to get in his way. He was the one that took care of the bandits and wolves that we encountered. He told me he was on his way to gain the Dragon’s blessing, but we parted ways before he did, I’m not even sure if he succeeded, but I know he survived. I’m told he went back to the south and crossed the desert without aid.”

    -The Wanderer

Join us for four weeks of Companions’ Tale, a story game in which you and you fellow players will collectively tell the tale of a mythical hero through the tales (however truthful) told by the companions they meet along the way.

New players are always welcome! Each week, we will start fresh with the tale of a new hero, so feel free to join in any time!

More about Companions’ Tale
Who is the Hero, and what caused a need for them to appear? What is the history of this land, its people, culture, myths. These are the questions that you’ll strive to answer in Companions’ Tale.

Taking on the roles of the Historian, Companion, Witness, Lorekeeper, Cartographer and Biographer, everyone will work together to build and explore a new world. Each role is held by all players, involving everyone in the story of the Hero. No names will be given, and time is not strictly linear. Over Three Acts, the Hero will emerge from the unknown, encounter the disaster that has arisen, and ultimately strive to resolve it. Whether they succeed or fail is in your hands as the player.

RPG Roulette: Threadbare @ Mayfair
Feb 6 @ 6:00 pm

The ragdoll finishes with her stuffed panda patient and wishes him a cheery farewell, tucking his payment (2 buttons and a tiny watch gear) into her skirt pocket. She quickly schools her face to hide her sly, greedy smile when she steps across the threshold to the waiting bulldozer. His repair is going to need glue, and glue is a costly resource, my friend…

Join us for two weeks of Threadbare RPG, a game in which you and your fellow players will play as jury-rigged toys in a broken world.

New players are always welcome! Each week, we’ll review the game’s mechanics as well as where we last left off in the story.

More about Threadbare RPG
Threadbare is a Powered-by-the-Apocalypse role-playing game by Stephanie Bryant. You’ll only need two 6-sided dice to play.

Your character starts out as a Softie (soft-filled toy), a Mekka (hard-shelled, plastic or metal toy), or a Sock (a single sock, often thought to have been lost in the laundry).

As you progress in Threadbare, your character changes. Every time you are damaged and repaired, you change your description and even your personality!

Dungeons & Dragons for Kids! (Class) @ Greenfield
Feb 16 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Welcome to Barristerberg Adventurers Academy!

This mythical and magical place is where young adventurers begin their journeys and build lifelong knowledge of how to be a great Dungeons & Dragons player.

Dungeons & Dragons isn’t just about tracking statistics and defeating imaginary dragons. The real fun of the game is in telling a communal story, cheering when your teamwork pays off, and laughing when everything goes wonky.

Learning Event
This D&D “class” will prepare young players to join in on any of our D&D for Kids adventures in the future.

Tier 1 Event
This “Tier 1” event will focus solely on the fundamentals of Dungeons & Dragons gameplay. Participants will learn the essentials of:

  • Choosing an adventuring class and race (elf, dwarf, gnome, human, etc) for their character;
  • Listening to descriptions of the story world and making choices for their characters;
  • Interacting with the Dungeon Master’s story world and the characters it contains;
  • Basic rules of adventuring and fighting (Example: Roll a die and add your attack value to see if you hit this goblin);
  • Acting in turn so that the whole group participates.

A “trimmed” portion of the Dungeons & Dragons rules will be used during this gameplay session. To continue learning the complete D&D ruleset, also join us for our Tier 2 and Tier 3 events.

About your Dungeon Master
Chris has been playing Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop roleplaying games since 1981. For many years, he has run events in Board Game Barrister stores, at official conventions, and at home. Chris has published several pieces in third-party roleplaying books and has written numerous adventures and campaigns.

RPG Roulette: Girl Underground @ Mayfair
Feb 20 @ 6:00 pm

The Girl is the hero of our tale. This is her story, and everyone playing the game contributes to it. In fact, the Girl is unique in the game because she’s the only character that everyone takes turns portraying.

Join us for two weeks of Girl Underground, a game inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Labyrinth, The Wizard of Oz, Spirited Away and similar tales about a curious girl and her strange companions as they travel through a wondrous world, complete a quest, and find the way back home.

New players are always welcome! Each week, we’ll review the game’s mechanics.

More about Girl Underground
The world the Girl finds herself in is equal parts fantastic and perplexing, full of characters who operate using strange logic and speak in riddles. Thankfully, she has found friends who she can rely on, and who rely on her in turn. These friends represent the archetypes found in these kinds of stories: talking animals, living dolls, friendly giants and other quirky companions.

Girl Underground uses a simple, easy to understand system built on the Apocalypse Engine, the same system used in popular games Apocalypse World, Monsterhearts and Night Witches.

Girl Underground is designed to tell a satisfying story in just one session.
