Postponed: No D&D Kids’ Table This Week @ North Shore
Aug 3 @ 3:00 pm

POSTPONED: Due to a special event in our event space, as well the unavailability of our usual DM David, we will NOT host a Kids’ Table for Dungeons & Dragons this week, August 3, 2019.

Thank you for your understanding, and we’ll see you next week!

At this 15-and-younger table, our local youngsters have a place to adventure with others their age and pursue their characters’ wildest whims.

Your Dungeon Masters, David and Erik, started this table to give kids a place to express themselves without worrying about whether adults will think they’re playing “wrong.” There is no wrong way to play D&D—it’s all about telling a great, hilarious story and growing with your characters!

Parents Welcome to Join!
Any player who can follow the rules of our event space is welcome to play without supervision, but parents are also welcome to play at the kids’ table in their weekly adventures, or jump into Adventurers League for the week.

X-Wing: Aces High Event @ North Shore
Nov 21 @ 5:30 pm

Join us for FFG’s Aces High Event. Battle against your opponents in a single free-for-all match, and seek to be the best Ace!

Registration: 5:00pm – 5:45pm
Event Start: 6:00pm

Format & Squadbuilding
Players will fly only a single ship, up to 80pts.
Free-for-All Match
Aim to get the most points before the end of the 75 minute round.

Points are scored for the following:

  • First Hit: After a ship performs an attack, if the defender was at full health and suffered damage, the attacking ship’s player scores 1 point.
  • Shot Confirmed: After a ship performs an attack, if the defender was destroyed, the attacking ship’s player scores 2 victory points plus all victory points on the defender’s ship card (remove them from the defender’s ship card when they are scored.) Then place 1 victory point token on the attacking ship’s card.
  • Stay in the Fight: If a ship flees, remove all victory points from its ship card. Its player loses 1 victory point plus victory points equal to the number of victory points removed this way.

Special Rule—Restore Ships (Start of Round): Starting with the first player, each player with no ship in play rolls 1 attack die, and then restores their destroyed ship, placing it back in play with its rear guides at any position on one of the hyperspace points matching the symbol rolled. If it cannot be placed this way at any of the matching positions without overlapping another ship, that ship’s player places it anywhere in the play area at range 0 of a board edge (not overlapping another ship) instead.

Event Scoring
The player that has scored the most victory points when the 75-minute round ends is the winner.

Event Prizes
Top Scorer—Plastic dual-sided card: Rebel R2-D2 Astromech upgrade // Imperial Black Squadron Pilot

Sealed Deck Academy—Prerelease Prep for Learning Players @ North Shore
Feb 7 @ 6:30 pm

Welcome to Sealed Deck Academy!

This hands-on, instructor led event prepares Magic learners and kids to build amazing decks and win more games at Prereleases and other Sealed Format events.

No cards, materials, or Sealed Format experience required!

Build a new deck at each Academy!
As an attendee of this Sealed Deck Academy, you will receive six booster packs of Core Set 2020 as well as invaluable instruction on how to turn that assortment of cards into a powerful Magic deck.

Using the tips and skills you discover at the Academy, you’ll be able to determine:

  • What makes a great “bomb” card;
  • Which colors to choose from your pool of cards;
  • How and when to create card combos;
  • How to fill out your mana curve so that you’ll be able to use all your mana every turn;
  • And much more!

Your instructor, Taylor, is a Sealed pro who has been achieving perfect win-loss records in his last five years of prerelease events. An excellent teacher as well as Magic player, he makes great deckbuilding fun and easy to understand.

Sealed format is fantastic for everyone because it creates an even playing field. Everyone is working with new cards; no one gets to bring the unbeatable deck they’ve been building for years.

What is Sealed Format?
In Sealed Format events, players will open six booster packs each, and from the contents of those packs, build a deck of at least 40 cards. Then, we pair everyone with an opponent to play some best-of-three matches using our newly built decks!

Each session, we’ll also have promo card prizes for some lucky participants.

Event Schedule
Registration: 6:10PM-6:30PM
Academy Discussion: 6:30PM-7:15PM
Deckbuilding Practice: 7:00PM-8:00PM
Two Paired Matches: 8:00PM-10:00PM

What to know ahead of time
This event is suggested for kids and Magic learners who already know the basic rules of Magic. If you’ve never played a game of Magic before, we suggest stopping into the store and asking for a walk-through from one of our Barristers. (Better yet, if you call ahead, we can let you know whether we’ll have time to take you through a full tutorial.)

Want to keep improving?
Stop in for another Academy session! Each session will present you with six new packs, more opportunity to practice, and a new deckbuilding puzzle to solve.

X-Wing: Aces High MK-III @ North Shore
Mar 19 @ 6:00 pm

This is a new take on the FFG Aces Aim High Event. Each player will be battling against one another in a single match and seek to be the best Ace!

Registration: 5:00-5:50PM
Event Start: 6:00PM

Format: Players will form a squadron of fighters all from the same faction with the following point costs:

  • 1 single ship up to 100pts
  • 1 single ship up to 80pts
  • 1 single ship up to 60pts
  • 1 single ship up to 40pts

When a ship is destroyed that ship is removed for the rest of the game. Instead they must pick one of their other ships in the squadron. The game ends when 120 minutes has passed OR 1 player has all of their squadron destroyed.

Players are aiming to get the most points before the end of the 120 minute round.

Event Prizes:
Most Points: Plastic Heroic card
All Participants: Extended alt-art of the Bombardment Drone bomber.

Scoring Points:

  • First Hit: If a ship at full health suffered damage by an attack, a friendly remote, OR payload upgrade the friendly ship’s player scores 1 point.
  • Shot Confirmed: If a ship would be destroyed after an attack, by a friendly remote, OR payload upgrade, the attacking ship’s player scores 2 victory points plus all victory points on the defender’s ship card (remove them from the defender’s ship card when they are scored.) Then place 1 victory point token on the attacking ship’s card.
  • Stay in the Fight: If a ship flees, remove all victory points from its ship card. Its player loses 1 victory point plus 1 victory point equal to the number of victory points removed this way.
  • Obstacles: If a player’s ship sets a maneuver dial and the controlling player executes a maneuver onto an obstacle and suffers damage to result in losing full-health, the controlling player loses 1 victory point. If a player does the above and results in being destroyed, it is treated as if it was fleeing.
  • Restore Ships (Start of Round): Starting with the first player, each player with no ship in play rolls 1 attack die, and then places one of their remaining ships, placing it back in play with its rear guides at any position on one of the hyperspace points matching the symbol rolled. If it cannot be placed this way at any of the matching positions without overlapping another ship, that ship’s player places it anywhere in the play area at range 0 of a board edge (not overlapping another ship) instead.
  • Initiative: Every new ship that enters the play area that has the same initiative as other ships will have players draw Numbered ID Tokens and place on their ship card to determine Initiative order until initiative is no longer tied.
  • Scoring: Whoever scores the most victory points wins. In case of a tie it breaks in the following order: ○ whoever has lost the fewest ships in their squadron ○ whoever has the most health on their ship at the end of the game ○ final salvo between all tied players.
