Update: Friday Night Magic will NOT be held this week. Oak & Shield has closed out its 2018 Friday Night Magic season. But fear not! We’ll be back in 2019. Stay tuned for details.
Every Friday night in the downstairs 42 Lounge, we’re taking our Magic game to the next level and keeping you fed between every round of play!
Whether you’re getting off work downtown, hopping over after classes, or just want us to feed you while you play—join us at the pub for an amazing weekly event of play, prizes, plates, planeswalkers, and other P words we’ll think of later!
Need dinner? Our courses will be snack-y fare, and will arrive between rounds over the course of the event. If you need something more substantial, we suggest arriving a while before the event to grab a dinner upstairs!
The FNM Fare
Registration: Chips & Dips
After Round 1: Bacon Chicken in Little China—Hand wrapped chicken bacon ranch wontons with ranch
After Round 2: Chef’s choice, Jalapeno Poppers or Eyeholes—Deep fried mac and cheese balls with jalapeno
Constructed Formats Only: For the moment, the pub’s FNM event will feature the Standard, Modern and Commander formats. With enough player interest, we can also run other constructed formats.
Bring multiple decks! Each week, we’ll gauge interest in each format. If there isn’t enough interest in your first choice of format, we still want you to be able to play, so bring decks for two or three formats if you’re able.
Pints! There’s another P word. Are we drinking at FNM? Yep! Alcoholic beverages will be available, and yes, you can drink while you play.
Does that mean the event is 21+? Nope! This is an All Ages event, and we’re here to make it equally as fun for every player who came to play and chow down!

In the Adaptive variant, you and your opponent play best two out of three. Game one, you use your deck. Game two, you use your opponent’s deck. If there’s a third game, you bid chains for the deck that won the previous two games.
Tournament Structure
Players will be paired for a number of Swiss-style rounds based on attendance.

Top 8: Choice of House/Chain Tracker card
First Place: Set of metal damage tokens
Over the course of this 5-week league, you’ll have a chance to play many different Archon decks—one deck for each player in the league. Your $10 entry will add one Archon deck to the League Pool, and you’ll be given game pairings that enable you to play every deck in the pool.
League Games
Refer to your League Pairings to determine who your opponent is while you play each deck.
For example, a line on your League Pairings might read: “Play Deck #1 vs John Smyth Deck #4.” In this case, John will also have a matching pairing to play Deck #4 against you.
It’s up to you to organize when to play these games. We suggest coming to as many League Tuesdays as possible—and letting most of your games fall into your lap—but your games can also be played on other days of the week. Join our Facebook Group for a great way to set up games with your opponents.
All League games must be played at Board Game Barrister—Greenfield.
League Prizes: Selecting your Archon Deck
At the conclusion of the League, you’ll have an opportunity to submit your deck preferences. In order of standings, we’ll fulfill those preferences as best as we’re able.
Everyone takes home an Archon deck for participating in League!
Open Gaming
League entry will grant you time in the event space on the day you sign up. On any other days you play, normal weekly play fees (100 MVP points or $3) will apply.
Get in while the getting’s good! We’re starting THREE new D&D tables with “zero sessions” where we’ll get to know one another, create characters, and set the scene for the adventure to come.
If you’re new to the game, or if you’ve been looking for a regular D&D group, this is the perfect opportunity to get started.
After Week One, your group will continue meeting on Wednesday nights, so we hope you can join us again sometime—or even every week!

This ongoing weekly campaign is open to players of all experience levels. With the guidance of your knowledgeable Dungeon Master, you’ll go on great quests, explore deep caverns and distant landscapes, and share a few laughs along the way.
New players are always welcome! We understand that players will come and go as this campaign continues, and we are happy to accommodate a shifting group of players each week.

On behalf of the Office of the Headmaster, we would like to welcome students, alumni and faculty to attend this year’s bewitching celebration of the Triwizard Tournament at our annual Yule Ball, hosted at Turner Hall Ballroom, on January 11th and 12th.
Wizards, witches, alumni and magic students are all invited. Our beloved Headmaster has put the finishing charms on this year’s festivities and encourages all who attend to wear their very best dress robes, fancy dresses, cosplay or other festive apparel.
Please take caution when traveling via floo–some dark wizards have tampered with the chimneys. Best use caution and ride your broom or apparate instead.
