RPG Roulette with Glenn @ Oak & Shield Pub
Aug 21 @ 6:00 pm

It’s an AMAZING time to be a roleplayer! Join us every Tuesday at Oak & Shield Pub for a new RPG system.

Each week, our RPG expert Glenn will select a new game system, give a quick rules explanation, then act as game master as the story unfolds!

RPG Roulette will cover a wide variety RPGs, including brand new games, old classics, and whatever intriguing systems cross Glenn’s fancy. It’s going to be a wild ride, but totally worth the trip.

Why RPG Roulette?
Every week, new RPG systems are hitting print, and each has its own unique rules, storytelling elements and setting. For RPG lovers, we know that a new system every week is a LOT to keep up with. The reading alone can be super time-consuming, all the more so when you’re putting time into organizing a game group (and inevitably being designated the game master for the group).

And that’s where RPG Roulette comes in! The rules are covered, the group is set, and you don’t event have to be game master!

Guild Ball: Rookie League
Aug 22 @ 5:30 pm

Welcome to the Rookie League!

Rule One.
Have fun! This is a game we all enjoy and the point of this league is to simply play more of it.

With that said, let’s dive in!

What is Rookie League?
Each team has one Rookie that has a number of different progression paths that they can choose to follow during the course of the League. The paths that the player progresses through must be chosen at the start of the League; if a coach wants to change their player’s progression path, they must start right back at the beginning with a Rookie-level player!

(A Rookie player is a unique model and card set that is acquired separately from the rest of the Guild.)

League Overview
All players must choose a Guild to play at the beginning of the league and continue to play each game with a roster built from legal players of that Guild. Roster building rules can be found below.

All players are required to organize their matches with each other. Each player is must complete two matches within a two week period. At the end of each match you can level up your either the front or back of your rookie card by one level. Full rules for rookies can be found on the Rookie League Rules & Resources page.

Matches can be played any time, and do NOT need to take place during the listed Rookie League event times.

Please limit yourself to two matches every two weeks, this will ensure a level playing field for all since everyone’s rookie will be roughly at the same power level.

All matches must be completed by September 5th.

League Scoring
Wins: 3 Points
Losses: 0 Points
Draws: 1 Point

Match Guidelines

  1. Matches are untimed.
  2. The use of a game plan deck and terrain are required. You can find a printable set of the game plan deck and terrain as well as the terrain rules in the links in the Rookie League Rules & Resources.
  3. Each player can bring a roster of up to 10 models that may play for their Guild. This roster must consist of 1 Rookie, 1-2 (Captain) models, 1-2 (Mascot) models, and 4-7 squaddie models that play for the selected Guild. *Since Blacksmith’s team construction is different simply bring 9 models and a rookie.
  4. After dice are rolled and kicking and receiving players are determined both  players will select their Captain and Mascot, or Captain and Apprentice Models simultaneously. Then the players alternate choosing models from their roster starting with the receiving player until each player has completed a legal six player team. Rookies must be played in every game!

Click here for the full Rookie League Rules & Resources.

Rookie League Prizes

At the end of the league, we’ll hand out prizes, including promo and spot-glossed player cards, Chibi mascot cards, exclusive ball-markers, Lucky models and cards for all participants, and more! Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Magic League: Core Set 2019 @ Bayshore, Greenfield & Mayfair
Aug 24 @ 6:30 pm

Join us for a five-week Magic League, beginning Friday, July 27.

When you enter the league, you’ll open six packs of Core Set 2019. From the contents of those boosters and basic lands provided by the store, you’ll then build a 30-card (minimum) deck.

From there, play single-game matches. Each player gets one free mulligan.

Play anyone during the course of the league and as many games as you like–there is no limit on total games. Just try not to play the same person twice in a row. League games may be played any time, but must be played at the Board Game Barrister location where you joined the league.

Track your games: We will have League Record sheets available, to be filled out by you and signed by a Barrister after every game played.

This league does not exclude you from playing in Friday Night Magic or other events. If you want to buy into the league and play some games between or after your matches, you’re more than welcome.

This league will continue through Friday, August 24.

Late entrants welcome!
Players in this league need not be present every league Friday in order to participate. If you miss the first week, you can enter in a later week. By the same token, if you miss any week after the first, you may resume your league play where you left off.

Need Reinforcements?
You may purchase one pack per week to add to your card pool and deck. Each new week begins on League Friday.
Lose three games, and you can purchase another pack to add to your deck.

  • Upon entering the league, players will receive a foil Reliquary Tower promo (while supplies last) and a League Deck Box.
  • Any player who plays 5+ games over the course of the league, win or lose, will receive a pack of Board Game Barrister art sleeves.
  • Any player who plays 20+ games over the course of the league will receive a pack of full art and/or foil promos.
Casino Night—presented by Sorta Ridiculous @ Oak & Shield Pub
Aug 24 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Join us for a Casino-themed night in the Lounge, presented by Sorta Ridiculous, and featuring the sassy, sarcastic game of Two F**ks.

Wear something snazzy, and play the part of a high-roller for the evening, as we play some cards and sip martinis.

This event will feature free learn-to-play tables for bluffing and push-your-luck style games, as well as drink specials, and more.

The theme of this game’s tables will be Casino Night, however, this event will feature no gambling.

Featured Game: Two Fks
In this game, you start with exactly two “F**ks,” and then try your hardest not to give any!

Your goal is to play a card onto the stack every turn, whether you’re matching its number, its saying type (like Sarcastic) or playing an action (like forcing the next player to discard a card).

We’re excited to welcome the designer of the game as well as some experienced dealers to teach the game to anyone who wants to learn.
