Dread: A Horror RPG

April 13, 2017

Maybe you’re at home with a couple of friends on a stormy night. What was that? Did you hear something? I think there is someone else in the house, someone in the basement.Dreadcover

Or maybe you are lost in the woods. Is it just me, or are we being watched? No, not watched….stalked. Where’s Sally? She was just there a minute ago, by that tree.

Or perhaps the night sky is suddenly flooded with light. Is it an alien invasion? People are running everywhere and sirens are wailing.

With the horror survival role playing game Dread, any of those scenarios is possible. Dread is a game of horror and hope, though the hope is mostly just hoping you’ll live to see the next day. Working together, the Game Master and the Players will be telling a story of fear and tension.

To amplify the tension even more, Dread doesn’t use dice like most role playing games. Dice just don’t quite get the right feel for the imminent peril, so instead, Dread uses a Jenga tower to resolve conflicts. How steady is your hand when you can feel the werewolf’s hot breath on your neck? Make the pull successfully, and all is well, for now. Fail….well, let’s just say failure isn’t an option you want to consider.

Will you and your friends survive, or will you fall to the Dread that looms over you?
